Defensive Driving Course-Alive at 25

This young driver intervention program zeroes in on drivers between the ages of 16 and 24 - the group most likely to be involved in fatal collisions. The National Safety Council, a leader in driver improvement training for more than 40 years, developed DDC-Alive at 25 to specifically target drivers in this age group.

This highly interactive four-hour program teaches young drivers how to take control of situations by taking responsibility for their own driving behavior. Alive at 25 classes are offered at the National Safety Council's Atlanta training center.

"Make A Difference" during National Safety Month

Every 4 minutes, someone is killed as a result of a preventable injury. After years of decline, the rate of unintentional injuries and deaths in the US has risen to new and unacceptable levels. This year’s National Safety Month observance reflects the urgency needed to reverse this trend. The National Safety Council is committed to working with all levels of government, the nation’s employers and the general public to “make a difference.” By dramatically reducing the leading risks to our safety and health, we can save billions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of lives.

June 23-27: Falls Among Older Americans An Urgent Concern

The National Safety Council has identified falls among older Americans as a large and growing health issue, affecting about 8,000 people every day. Falls are a leading cause of unintentional injury and death, and the leading cause of unintentional injury among the elderly. As the U.S. population ages, the urgency of this issue - and the need for comprehensive falls-prevention research and education - will only increase. Learn More...

June 16-20:The Overdose Epidemic

Accidental poisoning deaths have more than tripled in the United States over the past 20 years. This trend is driven primarily by adults and seems to be mainly attributable to the abuse of drugs, particularly prescription painkillers.

Learn about unsafe medication use and how you can “Make a Difference:”

  • Educate yourself, your family and your employees or colleagues about the risks associated with prescription drugs.
  • Never take someone else’s medication.
  • Take all drugs only as prescribed.
  • Know what medicines are in your home and pay attention to their quantities.

June 9-13: You’re in the driver's seat when it comes to roadway safety

  • Recent National Safety Council data reveal a 19 percent decrease in the rate of death from motor vehicle collisions since 1992.
  • Still, with nearly 45,000 fatalities a year, motor vehicle collisions remain the leading cause of preventable death in the U.S.

June 2-6: CPR and AED Awareness Week Launches NSC’s National Safety Month Observance

  • 300,000 Americans experience sudden cardiac arrest each year.
  • 95 percent of cardiac arrest victims die before arriving at the hospital.
  • Effective bystander CPR delivered immediately after cardiac arrest – before medical personnel have time to arrive - can double a victim’s chance of survival.
